Topic: How do people actually die from the flu?

I mean, what happens physically that kills them?

> Heather Holland, a second-grade teacher at Ikard Elementary School with the Weatherford Independent School District died over the weekend, the Weatherford Democrat reports. Holland got sick about a week ago and took medication, but delayed picking up the prescription due to the $116 copay, according to the newspaper.

Complications obviously. But it's funny because if you're at risk from flu here you get a free flu jab or you can pay for one like I did and it's £10. Well, it's not funny, just tragic seeing as she was 38.

Sorry pal. Here's a site that will tell you everything you need to know. www.google.com

But to seriously answer you, she died from pneumonia that can effect people with very weak immune systems, something influenza attacks.

Then she didn't die from the flu. She died of pneumonia. Why is this being called a flu death??

Maybe because it derived from the flu. Don't know

Rude. I assume the immune system gets compromised by the flu and then an opportunistic infection like pneumonia or something comes along and kills them when they're weak kind of like AIDS.

You assume? I said the same thing already. There is no assumption then.

Probably for the same reason we say the people who die in car accidents died in car accidents rather than from trauma induced organ failure or blood loss or whatever.

But people don't catch pneumonia or get entirely new disorders from car accidents. That's totally different. Thanks.
