Maybe if they'd just return control of the Falklands to natives...

Indeed and a quick lookC

Military in the area will cost the UK £61 million ($96 million) in 2012-13, which is expected to increase by £2 million ($3.14 million) each year.

While in the grandiose world of military budgets that might not be that much, when you look at the cost per British citizen on the Falklands, it works out at more than a whopping £20,000 or $31,000 (and that is only the defense budget, other costs will be born on other budgets).

Given that the sincere doubts about the UK's finances, its no wonder that some people are beginning to think that the Argentinian takeover of the Falklands is an inevitability.

For someone who makes his living shining the light on a subject You totally disregard how your British Empire has shrunk to even less than one of becky's infamous Micro Penis's.

British Empire currently is just a pimple on the Map of Planet Earth. Also your wallet keeps getting smaller as a result of Brexit and need to keep defending the Falklands

Hey n its not just the Brits - USA made some huge mistrakes in taking land that is now very costly to maintain - Currently Puerto Rico is driving our Congress out of their fucking mind re costs.

There were no natives on the Falkland Islands. The Argentinian claim to the land arises from the British annexation of the islands from Spain.

Argentina claims that because it was a colony of Spain which became independent, they inherented the original claim to the land from Spain.

Their armed invasion and subsequent loss in the war fought for control of the Islands is manipulated by the Argentinian government for their cynical false propaganda on the matter.

Yea indeed I do no the full history. It does come down to which country made the claim and which one lost the battle and as you no those are costly battles and the old Idea of maintaining land that in no way is related to yours except by Armed claim makes no Cents

I'm aware of current events and the history of empires but still, the Falklands is British. We have held those islands for 100s of years, Argintina has never hald them, we went to war and won and the people who live there voted to stay British. The matter is settled.

Anonymous K replied with this 3 months ago, 6 minutes later, 13 hours after the original post[^] [v] #850,681

The British claim to sovereignty dates from 1690, and the United Kingdom has exercised de facto sovereignty over the archipelago almost continuously since 1833. Argentina has long disputed this claim, having been in control of the islands for a few years prior to 1833. The dispute escalated in 1982, when Argentina invaded the islands, precipitating the Falklands War.

Contemporary Falkland Islanders overwhelmingly prefer to remain British. They gained full British citizenship with the British Nationality (Falkland Islands) Act 1983, after British victory in the Falklands War.

There have been several referendums held on the matter. The 2013 one had 99.8% vote to retain British citizenship.

100 years hummmmm

Pakistan 14 August 1947 - 881,913 km2 (340,509 sq mi), approximately equal to the combined land areas of France and the United Kingdom. It is the 33rd-largest nation by total area.

71 years ago. Ya all Raped n Pillaged Pakistan and well ya no how that ended.

Ya all will have the fight of your life to hold on to Scotland and Ireland in near future - No clue how this will end up but for sure it will be a nasty political fight

You're a victim of propaganda. Argentina has no realistic claim to the islands and thanks to their own bungled invasion, no chance of it becoming acceptable to the national mood of the public. Argentina made it as issue, not the UK.

Point is - With Brexit you will be even less in a position to hold on2 what you have no rite to hold on2

The Empire ain't much more than a postage stamp of land on Planet Earth so sure I understand why UK tries to hold on2 what it has.

In the mean time as I get ready for another pointless business meeting but hey it keeps my wallet more full I will continue to watch the Brexit continue to turn UK in2 more mush
