Externally hosted imagei finally got the legendary fishing pole! i'd almost forgotten about this, i didn't get it last year because i quit before my rogue was level capped. but she's capped and finally went on a little fishing expedition. most of the work was done last year actually, all i had to do was fish up a quest item and go on a fishing adventure with Pat Nagle.

it works the same way as our weapons, you collect and add power to them and use that power to unlock special abilities like brief water walking, a 100m blink to the nearest fishing pool, and decreased detection from enemies while fishing. it also allows for faster fishing, and increases your fishing level a small amount. over all it's fucking bad ass. and the dangly bits are all physics objects that swing around and look bad ass.

it's the first replacement pole i've picked up since Wrath of the Lich King, there my rogue got the Kalu'ak Fishing Pole which was much simpler but still buffed your skill level and let you breath underwater which was pretty useful.

Externally hosted imagenow if i can just get my rogue this mount i'll consider myself done until the next expansion. i'm not sure how hard it's going to be to get, it seems fairly involved and relies on both rng loot drops from world quests and the use of companions to go on fetch quests, so i'll have to level up some companions and do the world quests until i get the random loot drop. but, it of course could always be bad luck and i may never even see the loot drop at all. but i'm going to try. my rogue needs it, the flavor text even talks about how stealthy it is as a mount.

after some reading, i think the drop rate for the rng item is between 1 and 7 percent and i think it can only be attempted once weekly per character (mounts are account wide so any alt can get it).

which sucks. i never have luck with these kind of mounts.

i can totally see this being a repeat of the great pandarean phoenix clusterfuck

tbh i'm still salty over missing this

Are you going to play on the official blizzard vanilla servers?

squeegee replied with this 1 week ago, 4 hours later, 11 hours after the original post[^] [v] #831,044

@previous (D)
Yeah. For sure. Dunno for how long, but I'll play vanilla just to see it in all its original glory. I can't wait to see if stun rogues are a thing. Makes used to stun and rogues have several stun and you could kill everyone. No exceptions. Plate. Caster. Everyone.

also, i might break 100k gold this expansion. that's actually not very much, but it's a lot. atm i have around maybe 75k split between characters. and i don't think i've even hit any of the real money makers. i'm way, way behind on any kind of crafting, and at this point material prices are relatively cheap so farming won't bring in enough to spend my time on it i doubt. probably the big money makers are high level companion quests, just like in the last expansion, so maybe i'll still have time to hit those up for a while. it's very likely the next expansion will drop in august like most previous expansions. so i still may have 6-9 months to try for RNG mount drops and spam companion quests.

and i've also just discovered i'm at least 2 zones behind everyone, maybe more. not sure. i should've expected it, tbh, but i guess i didn't think about it, but at some point over the last year they unlocked two more zones. they're pre-raid zones, basically, so the content leads up to and ends with a raid, and this is where you'd go to farm for higher level gear and other perks. and i'm still not done with Suramar, the first pre-raid zone leading up to the Fall of Kil'jaeden raid.

i'm actually not sure if the final raid is even out yet. i thought the last patch was it for content, but unless they're dropping the next whole expansion in, like, march, then we should still expect to see at least one raid in the spring. in fact i think they haven't unlocked the final raids yet.

this is probably better a time to get back into it than right when the expansion first comes out. you really do kinda hit a wall pretty fast, but there's now probably more content than i can reasonably get through. since my rogue dinged 110 she's picked up a couple of dozen story line quests.

nice, already got all the legendary perks. this was a really fun item to acquire. still got more perks to unlock to get it all the way so there's still some fun to be had with this thing.

the fishing pole is way better than i thought it was. turning into a fish for underwater quests is a massive advantage. you have increased swim speed and can just outrun most enemies i've found. and the transformation doesn't effect stealth or speed boost, so i can still be stealthy and have an extra fast getaway.

underwater zones are the worst, it's difficult to fight shit in the water and you move super slowly. you also have to worry about breathing. this pole makes all of those things entirely moot. it's fucking great.

squeegee (OP) quattuodecuple-posted this 4 days ago, 7 minutes later, 3 days after the original post[^] [v] #831,827

still working my way through suramar. it's the prettiest city in the game by a long shot. it's also the biggest and most densely populated and has the most complex design. the canal network is one of my favorite parts. since the city is so dense, and there are many enemies, the canals make awesome highways that cut through everything.

the raft i picked up in Pandaria is really getting a lot of use as a vehicle around Suramar. it's been great for fishing, but didn't really get a lot of use in Draenor outside of fishing. same with Pandaria really. but in suramar city it's been used as much as many other mount.

Any pics of the fishing bait?

squeegee (OP) replied with this 4 days ago, 2 minutes later, 3 days after the original post[^] [v] #831,834

humans are outsiders here, this is the home of the nightborn, a race of ancient High Elves from 10000 years ago who fought an invasion and sealed off their city to try and hide it from Sargeras and the Burning Legion. here they got addicted to the mana magic of the Night Well, and eventually the burning legion found this place and attacked it to take the night well and use the magical energy to i think try and create another Dark Portal to bring the entire armies of the burning legion to Azeroth. something like that.

so like half the city is in open insurrection because some of the nightborn leaders and wealthy elite are helping the demons in exchange for rations of Mana Wine which sustains them, and the citizens are forming a rebellion. since this was a "closed city" and outsiders are not welcome here my rogue has to wear a magical disguise that gives her the appearance of a particular highborn elf named lyada or something like that. who my rogue killed. there are quite a few nightborn around who are sensitive to illusions and can see right through the disguise, so it's not hard to end up detected and dead. lots of places for npc's to be hidden and lots of corners to come around.

@831,832 (F)
i'm out of baits atm except for bait bait. there's like 36 baits in this one. there are baits used to catch specific fish while fishing in open water (not fishing at a school of fish), and there are rare baits used to catch a variety of rare fish. there are also baits that just improve your fishing skill that can be used at the same time, and there's a lure that can be used to improve your chances to catch bait. they can all be used together to let you catch specific fish anywhere you want and fish up bait for them at the same time, making a nice little loop.

and the drop rates on the rare baits is 1-2% and they each have a unique use mechanic, like one bait lets you see invisible schools of fish for to minutes, another attracts a shark that you kill and it has the rares in it's belly, and another one you throw on the ground and a fly comes by and you catch it and then you fish with the rotfly. and you need to catch all the rares to get the achievement for the fishing pole, and the rares are now used to "feed" the fishing pole to empower it with energy and unlock special abilities.

it was a lot of fun. still working on empowering it. there are a couple of rares that are best to farm, so it's a lot more involved and fun than fishing has ever really been, i think. it was satisfying puzzling out which fish had the best drop rates while grinding for the rare fish.

it's pretty easy to get lost here and take a wrong turn that you have to fight your way out of. lots of elites around, and lots of patrols.

idk if i'd say this is a prettier expansion overall than pandaria, just because the other 4 leveling zones aren't super stunning. but suramar is kinda in its own league. there's really nothing in the game that comes close to this level of detail. at least not as densely assembled as this and as expansive as it is.

squeegee (OP) quintuple-posted this 4 days ago, 15 hours later, 4 days after the original post[^] [v] #832,055

i think i'm about back up to speed with the story, but i think i'm still missing out on some crucial info. like how a giant planet appeared in the sky... but i did finally realize that i have rogue campaign missions to do. these are great, all about sneaking around and breaking into places and assassinating people and spying and killing spies and lots of backstabbing and betrayals to look forward to. and the Bloodsail pirates are part of the parlay! to stop the attack on the broken shore the entire underbelly is coming together. this is Fleet Admiral Tethys who i think was the dude who gave my rogue her title and hat. he sits at the table of rogues and represents the Bloodsails and he can be sent on missions and stuff. here he and my rogue have just discovered that the leader of MI:6 hired assassins to kill one of his own spies for some unknown reason.

i kinda doubt mathias shaw is doing anything against the alliance, surely there's an explanation for this. he was one of my rogues earliest trainers and taught her the value of stealth and poisons. my rogue thinks this mother fucker is lying, but wasn't able to shoot him with her blunderbus. so the sniveling coward delivered his message to lord ravenholdt and now Shaw is under suspicion.

and you know what, i hope he's working with jaina proudmoore. from the very beginning my rogue agreed with her against the entire kirin-tor that the horde can't be trusted even with the entire fate of the world at stake. fuck the horde. so i bet this is all about furthering her small rebel group working to further the goal of ethnically cleansing azeroth of all alien/monster/undead things or whatever her goals are. we've tried Khadgar's brand of neo-Medivhianism and multiculturalism isn't working. my rogue thinks it's time for the Eredor to take the Dranei back home to planet Argus so the Orcs can have parallel dimension planet Draenor back and for the undead to be fucking dead and for all the creepy sea monsters and cave beasts to stop helping demons.

if everyone would just be cool and stop helping demons then everything would be fine.
