Like 2016, I only have about 500 square feet of growing space and most of it is for perennial ornamentals.

I'm growing only three indeterminate varieties of heirloom tomatoes this year: Black from Tula, Brandywine, and Cherokee Purple. I'm feeding them a granulated 5-5-5 organic fertilizer.

Cherokee Purple remains my favorite. It grows well and has a great flavor with balanced acidity.

Black from Tula are still tasty and productive but I'm finding them sensitive to water and inconsistent in ripening.

Brandywine are delicious and productive. They're almost too sweet and too low acid.

It's interesting how the genes for taste and flavor are not the same. Those tomatoes look like total shit. But probably taste better than pic related which looks amazing and is available at Walmart year round.

The Roma tomatoes I buy every week from Whole Foods are terrific.

Yeahhh these taste so dank. I still have to tell myself that their outer blemishes don't mean they'll taste bad. It's such an odd conditioning. The interiors are fucking gorgeous, though. I should get a photo of them sliced up.

The split skin is mostly from inconsistent watering. I've been struggling to find the right balance during all of these 90°F to 100°F days.

https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/09/the-evil-reign-of-the-red-delicious/379892/ got me thinking about appearance vs. taste.

I don't think tasteless homogeneous produce is a GMO Monsanto conspiracy so much as we're wired to choose food by appearance.

At what point are you not gardening? Are you gardening if you use saplings? If you buy an already grown plant and harvest it's bounty did you garden it? Or do you have to grow from a seed?

The harvest is the best part of gardening i just skipped to that part.

Otherwise I use some small, local companies who focus on short season varieties.

Looks legit.

The foraging was not nearly as good as two years ago. I think I was a bit too late in the season. An early storm came through about 3 weeks ago and temperatures got too low for continued strong mushroom growth.
