Juiciest quote
The documents “would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father,” read the email, written by a trusted intermediary, who added, “This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.

The new Trump spin: "Yes we went to the meeting but we didn't get any dirt on Clinton."

That is as believable as the previous lie that no one on the campaign had any contact with any Russians lul. Reality keeps getting more insane.

Expanded context of the quote
"The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras and they offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be useful to your father. This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump — helped along by Aras and Emin."

A later email confirming the meeting at 4 PM was sent to Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner, so they obviously had knowledge of this too. What a gang of absolute fucking treasonous morons.

That's one of the many reasons Trump pushes "fake news" so hard. He knows he's corrupt as shit and the media is out for his blood so he tries to poison the well by accusing them of lying. It's so transparent but there are a lot people who believe him...somehow.

Perhaps the scariest thing here is that many Americans will still defend this despite how blatant it is. Trump is poisoning their minds.

Now we get to watch the "but her emails" camp desperately try to sell the public on how you really can't prove anything by looking at some emails, and all the people who breathlessly "broke" the pizzagate story will suddenly say they have always cautioned against jumping to any premature conclusions.

If the Russians did (and apparently they don't) have documents incriminating Hillary Clinton, don't the American people have a right to know just like with the pee pee dossier?

the piss papers weren't being subtlety used to try and establish quid pro quo. the adoptions program being halted were part of sanctions, so they were literally looking to trade information for removing sanctions. seems like the novice to international espionage didn't put 2 and 2 together and instead thought this stupid woman had nothing and walked out.

that is if you take jr's word for it how the meeting went down, and at this point there's no reason to trust anything the administration says. there were no meetings with russians. okay, there were some meetings but no collusion. okay, there was an attempt at collusion, but nothing was gained... bull. fucking. shit.

tomorrow there'll be a story about how they actually got useful intel. lol. i mean c'mon, aren't you a little tired of moving the goal posts for that orangutan?

Why do you think nothing came of it? I mean, remember trumpworld denied for months that any kind of meeting like this ever happened, and now we find out not only did it actually happen, but Trump Jr., Paul Manafort AND Jared Kushner were all present. At this point I think you have to stop giving Trump the benefit of the doubt and like, maybe consider the fact that they are lying about the way the meeting went?

Just to show how fucking off the rails the US/Trump apologists have gone, here's a flashback In 2000, one of Al Gore's aides received George W. Bush's debate prep from an anonymous source. The aide/Gore campaign pretty quickly contacted the FBI and turned over the information. Both campaigns took the issue very seriously.

In 2016 the Trump campaign receives an email saying the Russian government wants to help Trump win and they have damaging confidential information on Hillary Clinton. Not only do they not inform the FBI, they lie for six months and say no collusion of any kind occurred. They continue this lie until the New York fucking Times tells them they are going to expose their lies and then they dump the emails in public and don't even know how to spin what they did. It's objectively fucking nuts.

> Why do you think nothing came of it?
Uh, because nothing came of it? He got trolled by some Russian lawyer. Just like BuzzFeed, CNN, etc got trolled by the MI6 pee pee dossier.

This is why I'm skeptical that anything came of it: no one has ever, ever, ever, ever produced any "dirt" on Hillary Clinton or anything proving she committed any kind of crime. Never. Not in the Podesta emails or the DNC leaks, never. If there was some dirt or evidence of Clinton committing a crime from the Russians you think Trump would have just sat on it? I don't think so!

Has anyone ever produced any convincing evidence of Hillary Clinton committing a crime? She's a really smart lawyer, and she's spent the past 25 years living under a republican microscope. She's not going to commit crimes.

I just don't think it's plausible that this Russian lawyer gave Donald Jr evidence of Hillary's crimes, and then the Trump campaign just sat on it. That's why I think the meeting was nothing. Because no one has ever proved any criminal activity by any of the Clintons, ever.

If Donald Trump (either one) had the "dirt" on Hillary Clinton I guarantee you it would have come out during the election. But they didn't. No one did. There's no there there.

Anonymous E replied with this 5 months ago, 15 minutes later, 18 hours after the original post[^] [v] #797,737

No it's not. It simply comes down to whether or not you believe that democracy should be tampered with by external forces.

Because I'm starting to believe that you don't have any problem with it. Despite the overwhelming evidence that Russia actively tried to influence your country's democratic election, you don't seem to care.

The kind that have been discussed in this thread are a great example.

This reminds me of the fallacy many anti-abortion people use, about how abortions might have prevented the existence of the guy who cures cancer.

What ifs are useless. It's easy to look back in hindsight and say Hitler should have been stopped, but it's wrong to suggest that it's okay to tamper in an election if you're really really sure the likely winner would be bad.

So no, I do not believe it is ever okay to covertly influence a foreign election. I do believe it is good to encourage fairer elections in an above-the-board manner, which is obviously not what Russia did here.

Meta... Why are you so reticent about my straightforward question? Do you not believe that Russia did anything wrong here?

HEEEEY!!! It's the C-SPAN genius, who gets his info from CNN and thinks he's on the ball!

Anyone here remember this doozy of an editorial from no less an organ than Der Speigel, following that whole "America hacked the German state" situation from 2 years ago?

http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/editorial-merkel-must-end-devil-s-pact-with-america-a-1042573.html

The one which Obama cut a deal with Merkel if she dropped the investigation, and we can now see the result of this with the American media relentlessly trying to convince the world that Russia is now trying to hack their dear friend Merkel's election too? Remember how retards who watch C-SPAN swallow it all every single time?

I especially loved this passage from the editorial:

"As new documents from WikiLeaks and reporting by SPIEGEL show, the NSA has been systematically spying on much of the German government. America's spies not only listened in on Chancellor Angela Merkel's private conversations about sensitive political issues. The NSA also bugged ministries, ministerial offices and other government agencies. Not even journalism is sacred to the Americans - at least not in Germany. American spies monitored at least one SPIEGEL colleague in Berlin - spies who represent a country that considers itself a guarantor of freedom of the press, one of the cornerstones of a liberal democracy"

No, I think his point is that America has every right to investigate interference in its affairs, but this whiny sanctimonious hypocritical crying like the schoolyard bully who finally got hit on the nose is one of the many reasons the entire world is laughing at you right now. You're a pathetic embarrassment of a country now. You hack and bug the shit out of every country on the face of the earth, you "interfere" with every country's affairs from Liberia to Cambodia, and now it's been done to you it's some kind of huge unprecedented moral outrage. You Americans are dumb as shit and your hegemony is over. Deal with it. Russia hacked you and you're powerfless to even respond. Keep on crying and humiliating yourselves.
