Yes so peaceful - So quiet. Air so clean unencumbered by traffic pollution.

I was born with a brain. I have intelligence. I live in California. There are places like Death Valley one wood not chose to live. Horrid environment for humans. Times when a visit for a very short period can be nice.
Only a fool with a passion to find out how Hell is - Wood try and stay for to long.

Kunming when submitted to Google - If you as I have - Look at the top cities to visit the very top 10-50 -500 -1000 you cannot find Kunming listed.
So an intelligent person might say why go to a place that is listed by people who live there as undesirable, when there are so many other choices.

That said: People all over the world have torture fetishes - They like being whipped - beaten to almost death. Strangled burned with lit cigarettes pissed or shit on.
Those are the people that probably adore Kunming.

Kunming is such as depressing city...

Every time I eat Chinese food I s*** it all out 10 minutes later.

The food around here sucks. How much rice can you eat? Really? No wonder these people around here look like sticks. Rice with a tiny bit of meat mixed in doesn't fill me up.

I bet if I was in Manila or Quezon City, I would be able to find something to eat that fills me up.

If I stay here much longer I am going to look like I was in a Nazi Concentration Camp.

I also don't like the fact that there are no clothes dryers in Kunming. I hate leaving my clothes out to dry.

God this place sucks....

I have to agree. I hate KM and I do not think that is what you are saying either. But it is sort of depressing. I lived for three eyars in Beijing and now three years here and so I have some basis for comparison.

> The food here is too spicy and greasy oily. KM people cannot cook. I mean in general. All they can do here is BBQ on a stick and drench everything in red pepper or hua jiao with questionable grease. Also, if I say, in Chinese, that I do not want spicy food that is what I mean. I do not want the cook to add red pepper because he thinks that is the only way it can be eaten. They add red pepper to cover up the stank of rotting meat. Any meal of BBQ or fired potatoes here is much oiler than a Big Mac meal at McDoanals, and my students eat that stuff all day whereas I do to McDonald once every 2 months, yet they are convinced I eat more junk food than they do.

2) The taxi system here is simply stupid and the taxi drivers (well all drivers) have no regard for traffic laws. They do not seem to know what a red light is unless there is a cop parked there... who would not do anything anyway.

3) The service here is abyssal. Grumpy, moody staff who cannot even look up from their cell phones when they wait on you. Pathetic at best.

4) Compared to Beijing (and it pretty bad there too) the problems with spitting here is much worse, as is the issue with grown men pissing and shitting anywhere they want.

5) The public restrooms in Beijing are free. Here you have pay and they stink more and have filthy floors covered in feces.

6) How can people here be expected to drive when they can barely walk down the sidewalk. I have bumped into more people here who walk in a daze or simply decide to change course directly into than I have in my entire life total anywhere else.

7) And not to focus only Kunmingers the foreigners here are all stuck up and aloof. that whole crowd of alcoholic lao wai at Salvador's and the French Cafe are as rude and belligerent as any of the locals. Would it f**king hurt someone to say hi back! A woman went through such ludicrous extremes one time leaving a juice bar to make sure she did not look me in the eye or risk my nodding at her or saying hi. Jesus. Maybe she thought I'd ask her out or want to borrow money or something.

Ah that is all. I hate it here... Yes it can suck most of the times. And one more thing, the next I say it is cold on a gray, rainy winter day and I am wrapped in and shivering coats and scarves and some local goes "oh no, Kunming is the springtime city, never cold" I am going to push them in front of a bus!

How can one catch a fish without bait. One does not want to catch a Shark they say except Shark makes most excellent fish Tacos.

Now it is said I am good at Doxxing - Not necessarily so. Because and this is a fact that is not up for dispute. Indy moved to Beijing and promptly picked up Tuberculosis. Lost a bunch of Lung as result and was told he cannot live in Beijing because of horrid air pollution. What could never get an answer2 is why Kunming? It also has days where people have to wear face masks - but pollution aside - If one looks at teaching jobs available in China and its one hell of a market for people who want to work at USA based minimum wages but live in a lower cost place to live

On a search and I am about to be late for a meeting or I wood do such a search now - Hit Google and look for top 10 cities to live in China. Simple 2do

Then hit Google with English as 2nd language teaching positions and enter that with each city of top 10 list - LOTS of positions Open

So I ask YOU2 - Indy was intelligent nuff to get a Masters degree from a decent school in USA - Degree is somewhat worthless as Masters as one needs a PhD to earn more than a fry cook cause that is all the Masters is worth - PhD one can in theory earn enough to live a decent life cept they continue to close down such positions across the USA and are in no need of any more PhD as such

Let me inject for a second Languages which are not so easy for many to learn. If one is looking to learn a language and make money and end up with an exciting position which can be found in any major country of Planet Earth - Nor does it take more than an BS degree in that language to make $100K US$

OK back to my main fail as Doxxer - I could not find why Kunming which is not so much so good - If you ask the other Expats that currently live there for the most part they say its because of a gal they met who grew up there and so they are stuck in a relationship with that gal. They say no way wood they live there otherwise.

A few say its the dirt cheep booze so they can get drunk on the cheep - But what I do not get is WHAT THE FUCK? Is Kunming for some odd reason less in cost to drink drunk then say a great Chinese city to live in?
