Do you feel irritable and depressive after a night of drinking? Even after just a drink? (Or your substance of choice.) Try going entirely sober for six weeks and report back. Iâ€™ve been avoiding substances for about a year, now, and Iâ€™m feeling quite good about it.
At first, I missed the habit of enjoying the complex, earthy flavors of nice booze with meals, but Iâ€™ve taken the money I would have spent and using it for nicer coffee and pastries, instead. When Iâ€™m feeling anxious, I go on walks or perform mindful exercises that are a bit like meditation.
Previously, I found myself feeling shitty and anxious about life, and dulled those feelings with booze and pot. What really happened, though, was I ended up less capable of dealing with how I felt. Now, Iâ€™m realizing that substances have largely been a net negative in my life.
Some of you might have the genes and coping mechanisms that allow you to use substances and not feel shitty from it, but Iâ€™ll still issue you a challenge to give sobriety a try.

Thatâ€™s a decent point. It was a little of both. Alcohol makes me feel really shitty the next day. My brain is in a fog even after one drink. Weed really decreases my motivation. Iâ€™ve been feeling shitty about life in general, but addressing those problems didnâ€™t really seem very effective without more mental clarity.
